19th of june: Aung San Suu Kyi celebrates birthday June 19th, Aung San Suu Kyi will celebrate her 62nd birthday. But she will be celebrating another birthday alone, under house arrest. Burma's brutal military dictatorship defied calls from the UN, USA, EU and ASEAN to release her and on May 25th extended her detention under house arrest by another year. She is now in her 12th year of detention. She isn't allowed to see family or friends as all visitors are banned and her phone line is cut.
JS in de PvdA has cake with the Dutch Minister of Development aid The JS will offer the Dutch Minister of Development aid a special Aung San Suu Kyi birthday cake. We will also lay down our demands as formulated in the IUSY Resolution on Burma and urge him to address these issues within the European Union.

A Free Burma was placed highly on the agenda. A resolution on Burma, the role of the European Union and humanitarian aid was adopted, you can find this resolution here. Besides this resolution, a concrete Action plan on Burma was adopted, in wich worldwide activities are formulated. You can find the Action plan here.
ECOSY Petition The leaders of the European Union just reviewed their common position on Burma. We formulated a few demands to renew its content and to strengthen the common position. In the form of a petition many of our comrades signed the petition to show their support. We would like to thank all of them! Unfortunately the common position didn't change at all. We will make every effort to achieve change next year! To see who signed the petition and our demands, check the link.
